What’s up in the Kukui Lagoon?

My new worktable is up in the Kukui Lagoon! I was using such a small desk, actually an old vanity, and it was a chore to get large projects underway. The old desk was only big enough for my laptop and a few small items. Any time I wanted to work on something large, I either had to move the laptop or take projects down to the farm table in the kitchen. My airbrushing table is just big enough to hold a bike tank or fender and is used ONLY for airbrushing; all my airbrush tools within arm’s reach, in their special spots, so I don’t have to think to be able to grab what I need.

My uber-handy hubby used to run a cabinet shop, so he’s extremely good at creative something “way cool” out of a few chunks of wood. He whipped up a desk (that can double as my tiki bar!!!) in less time than it takes to listen to one side of Quiet Village. Dat man is wiki wiki! It would have taken me 2 days to do a crappy job of creating what he did in half an hour!!

This baby is also on WHEELS – so I can move it wherever I want! How cool is THAT? A bonus for cleaning under it, or finding the perfect light for working. Yes, it’s tall, but I use a drafting chair to sit behind it, or I stand while I am working (much better for my ailing back).

The base parts were cut and assembled down in the garage, so after that was done, we carried the base and the top up two flights of stairs to the studio. I painted the base black, and stained the top mahogany to match my 1950 Motorola cabinet. The top turned out so lovely, it is hard to believe that it is just an 80″ long door panel! I stapled animal print fabric to the open front and sides, and then I remembered that I still have some long bamboo sticks. So I split the lengths of bamboo, and John used them for a frame around the fabric.

What’s next? I have two old barrels that I used for displays in my import store back in Florida that are being turned into bar stools today. Then I’ll have to start stocking the bar!

Well, it’s time to get back to work in the Kukui Lagoon…until next time…MAHALO for stopping by!
