Mural Update: almost done!

Dawn painting a cheetah in Madison, WII am happy to say that it looks like I’ll be able to fly home to VA on Friday as planned…the big WI murals are almost completed! I’ve just got a couple of baby buffalo, two parrots, a lizard and a few plant touch ups to complete over the next 2 days. WOOOHOOOOO! If it weren’t for my assistants, I never would have been able to pull this off.

I can’t wait to get home to my hubby, my pup, my bike and my own bed! I am exhausted from working 10 – 12 hour days, up and down ladders and scaffolding, walking back and forth through this huge facility to mix and carry paint.

I’ve updated my website gallery and project page with progress shots of the murals; you can view the project page here: Little Explorers mural project page

UPDATE: It’s DONE!!! Woohooo! Here’s a video showing the completed nature murals, with close-up shots of the life-size animals.

Thanks for the support, and until next time…Make Art a Part of Your Life!

Mural project in WI

Hi folks! I’ve been working in Madison, Wisconsin, on four GIGANTIC murals at a daycare/nature center. Twenty days to paint all four murals: a Serengeti Room, a Rain Forest, a Great Plains Room, and a Jungle lobby. WOW! I am tired, brain-dead, and my body hurts, but the murals are looking awesome. I’ve got 8 days left…

Today, Teri Barr from Channel 3/14 in Madison, came to do a story on the facility, and they took footage of my hands at work. The story will air on Thursday at 9 PM Central on Channel 3, and on Friday night on Channel 14. The video of the story will also be available on the website for those stations after the story airs. Channel3000.com

The facility is absolutey AMAZING! There will be lots of animals, interactive things for the kids (a treehouse in the Rain Forest, a mountain cave in the Serengeti, a teepee in the Great Plains…and more).

Wish me luck, as this is quite a huge project, and it’s tough being away from home while doing such an intense schedule. I miss my hubby, my dog, my friends, my motorcycle, and my own bed. This project took a huge amount of planning: multiple sketches, lists of colors and how many gallons of each, purchasing extra brushes (walls KILL artist brushes), lists of art supplies needed (like snap lines, chalk, transparencies, rags, buckets, spray bottles, etc), and shipping my art supplies to my destination (airlines ALWAYS lose my luggage).

Here’s a preview of a little bit of the work we’ve been doing…

Till next time…make art a part of your life!!
Peaceful Journeys,
Dawn
